Today started out a little damp with some early morning rain. Darrin planned a 4 hour hike in Tasman National Park that was not recommended for children, so it was decided that Jeanette and the kids would have a quieter day at the caravan park. Aside from some necessary domestic duties such as the washing, the kids were free to play in the playground and chill around the caravan.
Meanwhile, Darrin drove about half an hour up the road, including 12 kms of dirt before finding Fortescue Bay - a beautiful sweeping bay of white sand and turquoise water. The walk began here and made its way out to Cape Hauy... I've no idea how that is pronounced, but it was hell of a walk getting there. Quite a challenging one, with lots of uphill, downhill, steps, strong wind. But it was worth it with some truely spectacular coastal scenery. The rocky cliffs were hundreds of metres above the blue ocean and it was worth the slog it took getting there... and back! Plenty of wildflowers, lizards and even a large snake just of the trail at one point.
You can see the track heading over the next hill... it was steps all the way up, then there was another hill just like it afterwards!
Fortescue Bay was a welcome sight on return!
Jeanette and the kids explored the rock pools alongside the caravan park and found sea anenomes, abalone and even met another boy who has diabetes. Zac climbed on this old log too, but he fell into the water...!
