We hung around our camp at Dunalley til after morning tea, enjoying the view, which as you can see was quite colourful with the greens of the water, blue of the sky and white clouds. The boys in particular enjoyed watching the swing bridge open and close a few times for fishing boats and pleasure vessels. It's for the Dennison Canal which allows boating to avoid having to go around the Tasman Peninsula to get in and out of Hobart... a kinda mini version of the Suez Canal!
A catamaran moves through the open swing bridge:
Only had to drive for around 20 mins until we got back to Sorell. Called in at the Sorell Fruit Farm where you can purchase empty punnets and go and pick to your hearts content. So we did! They even had fruit we'd never heard of including Tayberries, Silvanberries and Jostaberries. The Silvanberries were especially nice. Harder to pick as they have thorny stems like blackberries, but worth the few prickly bits! The farm also had strawberries, boysenberries, loganberries cherries and apricots all ready for picking. We spent an hour or so filling our punnets before having lunch at the caravan.
Here's some ripe Silvanberries, ready for the picking!
It was then only a 15 minute drive to Cambridge, the Barilla Caravan Park, our home for the next 5 nights. A hot and blustery day, and tomorrow is meant to be worse. We were warned of a grassfire at Richmond, which is only about 16 kms up the road from here, but assured it was not heading our way and there was no danger. Here's hoping.
