Port Arthur

Sunday 30th December

A big day out, exploring the history and stories of Port Arthur.  The kids did extremely well wandering most of the day - from 9:30 til 5:00, with just a short trip back to the caravan for some lunch!  Zac enjoyed a kids activity book where he got to fill in blanks as he went around 'researching' some of the history.  He says history is one of his favourite subjects, so he was in his element.

For a fleeting moment, it was tempting to leave them there...

During the holidays, there are a couple of kids activities on during the day.  Today it was 'convict brick making'.  All three of them had a blast making their own brick out of clay.  There were also pieces of crushed original convict made bricks in the clay.  So they got a great souvenir to bring home!  During the convict days of Port Arthur, the convicts made some 68000 bricks a month.  Our 'little convicts' only made one!

Our ticket gave us a short cruise out on the harbour, past the 'Island of the Dead' and Point Puer, the boys jail.  Zac was horrified to think boys his age were imprisoned there.  He's happy being a 21st century kid!

After dinner and the kids were in bed, Darrin went back to do a 'Ghost Tour'.  Started at 9pm and went for an hour and a half. Lots of great stories, a few scares... but no ghosts sighted.  It was a good experience though!
