Concrete Jungle to the Zoo...

Today we spent at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo which is a 12 minute ferry ride from Circular Quay. So we walked to the Quay and hopped on board a ferry and were at the zoo around opening time. Our Melbourne Zoo memberships gave us reciprocal rights so it did not cost us anything. There is a gondola ride that takes visitors from the ferry dock up to the top entrance of the zoo. This was a nice little ride that also took us over some of the animal enclosures. They call it the Sky Safari!

We spent several hours enjoying the animals and exhibits…

A highlight was the baby elephant and watching the elephants get a ‘bath’. We were so close we nearly got wet ourselves!

Once we'd seen all we wanted to, we caught the Sky Safari back down to the ferry, rode the ferry back to Circular Quay, then caught the train two stops which deposited us just a couple of hundred metres from the apartment! The kids enjoyed a swim in the rooftop pool.

After dinner, as if a day at the zoo was not enough, we ventured out again. We walked to the Art Gallery of NSW.  On Wednesday evenings they have ‘Art After Hours’. We wandered around admiring old and new art. We sat and enjoyed bluegrass band ‘The Morrisons’ as they played in the main atrium area. It was a great evening, one of culture and art!

The walk home was pleasant, with the city lights coming to life.
