Escape to Euroa

It's been awhile, but we had the opportunity to finally get away on a caravan trip. We have not had the van out since October 2019... the longest it's every been parked up in it's nearly 12 years with us!

We booked in for two nights at the Euroa Caravan Park for the first leg of this journey. It was just a two hour drive from home and we were there by lunch time on day one.

This trip started out with just three of us - Ethan, Gemma and Dad. The kids did a great job helping set up on our site across the waterway known as Seven Creeks.

After lunch we went for a walk along the Apex trail into town, past the cute old Seven Creeks Hotel and looked along the deserted main street. Saturday afternoon and everywhere was closed! Took pictures of some historical buildings including the post office, the NAB (bank), and an old hotel near the railway station.

This group of tree trunks all seem to come from same root system, making it a very big tree indeed!

Back at the caravan park, Gemma and Ethan enjoyed playing in the creek.
Later in the afternoon, once everyone was out of the creek, the reflections look impressive.
This really is a lovely van park - with the water running through the middle.

Day two in Euroa saw us driving to Mt Wombat - about 17 km's along the Strathbogie Road.
There was a rough dirt track which we were able to drive along to reach the top of the mountain.

It was a weird day - dark clouds surrounded us but the sun shone on Euroa in the distance. We didn't see any wombats, the furry beasts who gave their name to the mountain we were now standing on. We did see some wallabies and on the way back down the mountain we stopped in an area labelled as 'Butterfly Valley'. There was a 300 metre walk into the bush to locate a geocache. The area lived up to its name with hundreds of butterflies everywhere! Not to mention some lovely wild flowers. The flowers were far more cooperative when it came to capturing them with the camera!

We drove back into Euroa and went to a cafe - to utilise one of the many vouchers given to us at the caravan park. The vanilla slice was particularly yummy!
Following the refuel, we went looking for a few caches around town, including at the Arboretum.

One cached was right outside the Butter Factory which looked great - now a B&B and events venue.
On the way back towards the caravan park we found this ramshackle old hotel which looked like it has seen better days.

The rest of the afternoon was spent back in the creek... where I ventured into the water as well.

One thing is for sure... we'd love to return to this caravan park again! It was a lovely spot, despite the fact that it was quite busy.
