Day in Beachport

Another fabulous day trip we did while in Robe was south to Beachport. About 50 km away it was an easy journey. Beachport is on Rivoli Bay and began its existance as a whaling station. While in Beachport we found the best places to explore by looking for all the geocaches in and around town! This hobby is certainly a great way to ensure you don't miss both well known and lesser known attractions and points of interest!
A large pine tree on a roundabout in the centre of town had a number of balls suspended from its lower limbs:

The first cache led us across a salt lake - the southern end of Lake George.

Jack and Hilda McArthur had a walk named after them. It was a tremendous walk, not too long, but so varied. It took us through coastal scrub, up to a lookout with panoramic views. Continuing the loop we had a look at Woolley Lake.

Another cache sent us walking along a beach – where the sand was so soft and fluffy it was extremely difficult to walk on! We explored rock pools and the cliffs there too. The clouds were a spendid fluffy variety in a sky of deep, deep blue today!

The Bowman scenic coastal drive around Beachport was brilliant, with so many places to stop and enjoy the views.

The Pool of Siloam is said to be highly salty.  We did not have a swim to try out its buoyancy!

We enjoyed a tasty lunch at a café opposite the jetty. The Beachport jetty is the second longest in SA at 772 metres in length.
