Yesterday the edge of the world, and where the Arthur River meets the sea... today we visited the Arthur River further inland... he was becoming as familiar as an old friend was Arthur!

The Arthur River is a tanin stained river, meaning it looks like running coca-cola. It meanders through the Tarkine region, and today we drove to the South Arthur Forests and experienced more of this remote wilderness... which was again less than an hour from Smithton.

Drove through Edith Creek, a very small town with a Devondale milk processing plant. There is a loop road around the South Arthur Forests, but it has been cut off since floods in 2007 took out the Tayetea Bridge. So we headed the opposite direction, to the Kanunnah Bridge across the Arthur River. We passed a couple of logging trucks on the way, which with the winding, narrow road was a bit of a worry! From the bridge we drove up the mountain to the Sumac Lookout. A very short walk took us to a fantastic view of the dense forest and the Arthur River below. We had the place to ourselves which added to the remote feeling of it all.
On the way back to our house we stopped in the town of Irishtown and bought hot pies for lunch. Enjoyed those in our cosy digs. As it was a nice sunny day again, we then bounced on the trampoline for awhile. After the youngest two napped we let the kids loose in the rec hall with a basketball each. They ran off heaps of steam.
